19 Guam Athletes Set to Compete in International Swim Meet at Muntinlupa Aquatic Center on April 1, 2023
The Guam Amphibious Swim Team is gearing up for an exciting weekend as 19 talented swimmers prepare to compete in the prestigious Swim League Philippines Summer Swim Splash meet on April 1, 2023. Held at the Muntinlupa Aquatic Center in the Philippines, this international competition will showcase the hard work and dedication of Guam’s swimmers, who have been training tirelessly for this event.
Head Coach Andy Lee attributes much of the team’s success to the strong community support and partnerships with local businesses and organizations, including Pacific Islands Club – Guam, the Bridge Fitness, FASCARE, Fökai Industries, and Ina Wellness Collective. Lee also highlights the critical role of the Governor’s Childcare Community Care grant in making the team’s participation possible.
Over a 12-week training period, the swimmers participated in the Junior Amphibious Training Program (JATP), which focused on building water confidence, honing technique, and improving conditioning. The comprehensive program included sessions on water safety, rescue skills, leadership development, youth empowerment, study skills, test preparation, yoga, meditation, and strength and conditioning.
Despite facing challenges related to COVID-19 restrictions and limited local facilities, the Guam swimmers have shown incredible determination and resilience. Coach Lee takes pride in the athletes who have overcome these hurdles and continue to demonstrate their commitment to the sport.
The Guam Amphibious Swim Team is set to participate in various individual and relay events across all four strokes, with the anticipation of achieving personal bests throughout the competition. While the entire team is expected to deliver strong performances, spectators and fans should keep an eye out for standout swimmers, who are eager to make their mark on the international stage.
As the swimmers embark on this exciting journey, the Guam community stands behind them, proud of their achievements and looking forward to cheering them on at the Swim League Philippines Summer Swim Splash meet.
