In only his third Greco Roman wrestling tournament ever, 10 year old Syrus Anderson of Lompoc won first place at the California State Greco Roman Wrestling Tournament in Temecula which was held May 2nd through May 4th.Anderson is a third year wrestler and is a member of the Lompoc Academy of Wrestling club. He competes in the 87 pound weight class in the Midget Division.
After losing his first match, Anderson won the second on points then pinned his third opponent. In the finals, he won 4-2 in the closing moments after being tied 1-1 going into the final round. He defeated last year’s national champion.
Anderson’s other achievements include, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Tri County Champion. As well as 2006 and 2007 Kern County champion and has an overall win loss record is 65 and 4. Anderson is now qualified for the Western Regional Invitational which will be held in Idaho.He will also attend the California State Freestyle Tournament in San Jose, coming up in June.
